What is a RI file?

RI files mostly belong to RDoc. RI files serve multiple roles depending on their origin and purpose.

How can I open a RI file?

You need a suitable software like RDoc to open a RI file. To find out what program is needed to open RI files, you need to determine the file format. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. The RI file extension is not common and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 45% of all RI files start with the magic bytes 04 08 55 3A, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are 270 bytes to 710 bytes in size, with a median of 360 bytes. The file type is relatively new. The keywords RDoc::Markup::Document, @parts[, RDoc::AnyMethod[, omit, publico, headings, from and @fileI" are typical for these files. Such RI files store data about cdesc, generate, gallery and uuid.
• 10% of all RI files use the same file format, which have the signature 51@. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. RI files are between 300 KB and 1 MB in size.
