What is an RLV file?

RLV files mostly belong to Photo viewer. RLV files serve several specific roles depending on their source.

Camera Images: A large portion of RLV files include JFIF data. They come from devices such as Ricoh cameras and may also be produced by Sony Cyber‐shot systems as raw images. These files follow the JPEG standard as detailed on JPEG.org.

Drone Logs/Videos: Some RLV files capture video or flight log data from DJI drones, typically managed with software like DJI GO 4 or DJI Fly.

Data Logging: A few instances show RLV files used as RealView data log files that record measurement information.

How can I open an RLV file?

You need a suitable software like Photo viewer to open an RLV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RLV file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RLV file directly in the browser:. A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. The RLV file ending is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 60% of all RLV files are based on the well-known JFIF file format. JFIF is short for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is a bitmap graphic that uses JPEG compression. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. Most of these files are 1 KB to 12 KB in size. The file type was created recently. The files contain the following words: JFIF, (#(N++N and (B+(%%(Q:=0B`Ued_U][jx. Examples of file names are IMG_20180601_0001.RLV or IMG_20180601_0002.RLV.
• 20% of all RLV files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 00 00 01 06 01 09. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 440 KB and 79 MB in size. The file name DJI_0001.RLV or DJI_0002.RLV is characteristic of these files.
