What is an RMD file?

RMD files mostly belong to RStudio by Rstudio. RMD files are mainly used to store Markdown documents created with RStudio, an integrated development environment for R programming. An RMD document contains plain text written in YAML (for metadata), Markdown, R, and sometimes HTML syntax. RStudio may use such RMD documents to generate sophisticated reports, data visualization, and presentations which can be rendered as HTML, PDF, PPTX, or DOCX. RealPlayer, a multimedia playback and streaming software also uses an RMD media file. This RMD file references audio and video streams. RMD filename extension is also used to store video metadata created by REDCINE-X, a program for editing videos captured with RED digital cameras. The RMD metadata file contains the editing perspective used to adjust the sharpness and other "looks" of an R3D video file. Imail Server stores messages in RMD files. OAAP Pro, a data reporting software for Windows stores its database in an RMD file.

How to open an RMD file

You need a suitable software like RStudio to open an RMD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RMD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RMD file directly in the browser:.
