RRD file format:
To view or edit RRD files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the RRD files is as follows:
RRD is one of the most common file extensions and covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 50% of all RRD files belong to Round-Robin Database. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The file size is in the range of 33 KB to 1 MB. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. The following keywords are characteristic: GAUGE. Files like these are about traffic, load, uptime, usage, port, memory, system, disk and idle.
- 25% of all RRD files use the same file format, which have the signature EHFA_HEADER_TAG. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. Most of these files are 500 KB to 250 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as EHFA_HEADER_TAG and root. Such files are related to land, srtm, topo, cover, nlcd, hillshade, boundary, dominant, mosaic, cgiar, class, nepal, world and ndvi.
All other RRD files (25%) have no consistent format, often, for example, RRD4J Round Robin Database. Tagged as http, temperature, temp, active, used, free, hits or rate. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your RRD file!
