All about RSC Files
The RSC file type is primarily associated with Symbian.
What is an RSC file?
- Usage: RouterOS has numerous commands which are used to accomplish certain tasks on the device in question. A lot of these commands output information to a file, such as "export" and "backup", or import from a file, such as "import". These files are RSC files - they are binary files that contain data readable by RouterOS. They are generated via the aforementioned commands, and their names are specified when executing the commands. These files can then be saved locally or transferred via FTP and shared between other devices using the same operating system.
- Scripting: RouterOS supports the creation of script files, which are saved as e.RSC as well, except they have to have ".auto" in their name before the extension. These script files can be manually executed or set to be executed automatically, provided they are located in the device's home folder.
How to open RSC files
You need a suitable software like Symbian to open an RSC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RSC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RSC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

RSC file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the RSC files:
The RSC extension is very commonly found and includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in RSC files:
- 40% of all RSC files are based on the popular config file format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are on average 7 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 56 KB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. RouterOS, software id, model, serial number, /interface bridge and add name. Files like these have the following tags: backup, config, export, myconfig, users, firewall, mangle and mikrotik.
- 6% of all RSC files belong to MicroStation Symbology Resources. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The file size is in the range of 74 KB to 3 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 5lFr, MicroStation Symbology Resources and MicroStation Resource File - Version 5.0. The following filename is common: font.rsc or lstyle.rsc. These files can be linked to ribbon.
The remaining 54% of all RSC files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. Symbian OS resource data, JFIF, EXE, ZIP, XML, BWRF, CRSR, Line, queue, SIGSTRM, LBRC, Generated and SFSv. Often described as antilag, anti, script, fasttrack, games or bank. If you want to find out which format your RSC file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .rsc file to analyze".

an rsc compiled resource file is a special file format by Nokia and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with RSC files
- Associate the RSC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open compiled resource files. Because only the current version supports the latest RSC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Nokia manufacturer website after an available Symbian update.
- To make sure that your RSC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RSC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
