What is an RSP file

RSP files mostly belong to Universal Installer by Oracle. RSP is a text data file used by MSBuild. Build Engine, created by Microsoft, is a platform that's used to build applications. It provides an XML schema for any given project that controls how the software is built and processed. Most notably, Visual Studio uses this platform to store and build projects written using it.

Structure: RSP files are text files that contain various CLI (command-line) switches for MSBuild. It can also contain comments (denoted with the "hash sign" or '#'), and an "@ switch" that defines another response file being passed to MSBuild.
Special case: There is a special type of RSP file called the "autoresponse" file. This file acts as a default configuration file that MSBuild uses when it creates a new project. It must be located in the same folder as "msbuild.exe", and it defines default CLI switches to be used.

How to open RSP files

You need a suitable software like Universal Installer to open an RSP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK.
