All about RWS Files
The RWS file type is primarily associated with RimWorld.
What is an RWS file?
Usage: Rhino allows for work session management to allow for better organization and interoperability between a team of users working on the same project. When working on a project, every user manages their own RWS file. This file stores a list of files that are used as reference geometry and act as shared objects on the project. Objects listed inside this file are cannot be edited, but can be copied and pasted into the currently active file. RWS files are not meant to be shared between users and act merely as a tool for each individual working on the shared project.
Other associations: RWS has multiple other possible associations:
- Revit workspace file - a backup file created by Revit automatically during use as a form of redundancy failsafe.
- RimWorld save file - an XML based data file used to save game information for the RimWorld video game.
How do you open RWS files?
You need a suitable software like RimWorld to open an RWS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RWS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RWS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

RWS file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the RWS files is as follows:
RWS is not a commonly used file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 35% of all RWS files use the same file format, which have the signature 0D 08 00 00. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 1 MB to 49 MB in size. This file type was primarily in use more than 10 years ago. Files like these are about audio, stra, streammu, streamus, banquet and crash.
- 10% of all RWS files have the same signature 09 00 00 00. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The average file size is 30 MB with most files being between 1 KB and 150 MB in size.
All the rest of the RWS files (55%) have different formats, such as XML and aspell. Often described as only or music. If you want to find out what your RWS file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

an rws saved game file is a special file format by Ludeon and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with RWS files
- Associate the RWS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open saved game files. Because only the current version supports the latest RWS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Ludeon manufacturer website after an available RimWorld update.
- To make sure that your RWS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
