What is a SAVE file

SAVE files mostly belong to Nano by Nano Developers. A SAVE file contains a text document which nano text editor saves automatically. It contains a document being edited in nano before a user or the system exits the program without saving. This document is named nano.save by default. How do you open SAVE files?

You need a suitable software like Nano to open a SAVE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SAVE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SAVE file directly in the browser:. SAVE file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. 45% of all SAVE files use ZIP compression, i.e. a SAVE file contains several compressed files. Such a ZIP file contains 5 to 24 files. Common included file names are extra_info, json, log, renpy_version and screenshot.png. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are 110 KB to 650 KB in size, with a median of 270 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: screenshot.png. An example of a file name is 1-1-LT1.save or 1-2-LT1.save. 10% of all SAVE files have the same signature 24 02 00 00. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. A typical file size is 120 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Unnamed. Examples of file names are 1.save or 2.save.

All other SAVE files (45%) have different formats, often, for example, .NET, JSON, zlib, GZIP, Unreal, DGDATA, DBPF, version, xsnp, BinaryAAEAAAD, NST, DeSmuME and regf. How to solve problems with SAVE files

Associate the SAVE file extension with the correct application.
Update your software that should actually open temporarily saved texts. Because only the current version supports the latest SAVE file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Nano Developers manufacturer website after an available Nano update.
To make sure that your SAVE file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
