Opening SDD Files

The SDD file type is primarily associated with SecureDoc.

SDDFile Extension SDD
File extension: SDD
File type:  encrypted file

What is an SDD file?

SDD files mostly belong to SecureDoc. The SDD file extension is used for different purposes based on the originating application. In many cases, these files are encrypted documents that protect sensitive information. For example, one common type is used by SecureDoc Desktop, where the file stores data secured by encryption (see SecureDoc reference).
  • Encrypted Document: This variant locks data using encryption techniques. It is meant to secure and hide information until opened with the correct decryption key.
  • Inverter Configuration: Some SDD files hold configuration settings for inverters in industrial systems, such as those found in LSIS XG5000 or Omron CX-Drive equipment. They set parameters for servo drive operation.
  • SICK Device Description: Another group of these files is based on the ZIP format and contains device information (SOPAS ET 2.0) for sensors. They help in integrating and describing SICK sensor details. More details can be found on the SICK website.
  • XML-based Sales Document: Some SDD files use an XML structure to store sales documents. These are used with systems like SAP SD Document to exchange sales data.
  • StarDraw Drawing: A final example is a Microsoft Compound file that saves drawing information created by StarOffice Draw. For further information, visit the OpenOffice website.
  • FilExt.com tips: Each file type must be opened with its proper application. For encrypted files, a decryption key and SecureDoc Desktop software are usually needed. For configuration or document files, using the right tool (such as a compatible text editor, decompressor, or drawing program) is essential.

    How to open SDD files

You need a suitable software like SecureDoc to open an SDD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SDD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SDD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

    SDD file format:

If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the SDD files comes to the following conclusion:

SDD is not a common file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

All the rest of the SDD files (40%) have different formats, such as StarOffice StarImpress presentation, ZIP and XML. Just click the "Choose your .sdd file to view" button on this page to find out what your SDD file is.
