Opening an SDR File
The SDR file type is primarily associated with SmartDraw.
What is an SDR file?
How to open SDR files
You need a suitable software like SmartDraw to open an SDR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SDR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SDR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

SDR file format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the SDR files:
You will often come across the SDR file type. This includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in SDR files:
- 55% of all SDR files are SmartDraw document files. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. SDR files can be up to 10 MB in size, but are often around 29 KB - 930 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as SMARTDRW, IHDR, pHYs, Arial and IDATx. The file name Floor_Plan.sdr is characteristic of these files. Files like these are about floor, plan, chart, flowchart, flow, process, design and diagram.
- 25% of all SDR files start with the magic bytes 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are on average 9 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 40 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 06NM1.00000000 and 00NMSDR33 V04-04.02.
The remaining 20% of all SDR files are different files with different signatures. These files are often connected to software, drawing, mapa or work. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your SDR file!

How to solve problems with SDR files
- Associate the SDR file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open drawings. Because only the current version supports the latest SDR file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the SmartDraw manufacturer website after an available SmartDraw update.
- To make sure that your SDR file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SDR file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
