Opening a SEP File
The SEP file type is primarily associated with Endpoint Security.
What is a SEP file?
How to open a SEP file
You need a suitable software like Endpoint Security to open a SEP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SEP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SEP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

SEP file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the SEP files:
The SEP file type covers different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 55% of all SEP files are based on the popular JetDB file format. The JetDB is a database format often used by Microsoft Access and Visual Basic programs. JET is short for Joint Engine Technology. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 2 MB and 27 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Standard Jet DB. These files can be linked to schema, diagram, schemat, system and panel.
- 10% of all SEP files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. SEP files can be up to 360 KB in size, but are often around 13 KB - 110 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: <FileHeader DocType = "SEP2__SUREXML" Version = "1.4.16.12"> <OpenProgram name = "sep reader" version = "1.00" priority = "1"/> <OpenProgram name = "sep viewer" version = "1.00" priority = "2"/> <Open.
The remaining 35% of all SEP files are different files with different signatures, such as ChemSep project, ZIP, EXE and SEPA. Just click the "Choose your .sep file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your SEP file is.

How to solve problems with SEP files
- Associate the SEP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SEP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Braodcom manufacturer website after an available Endpoint Security update.
- To make sure that your SEP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SEP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
