Opening an SGD File
The SGD file type is primarily associated with Secure Global Desktop.
What is an SGD file?
How to open an SGD file
You need a suitable software like Secure Global Desktop to open an SGD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SGD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SGD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SGD files:
- Secure Global Desktop by Oracle
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SGD files are often referred to as Secure Global Desktop data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- GeneSnap (secure image) by SynGeneGeneSnap is an image acquisition software that simplifies the process of capturing electrophoretic gel images. By default, it stores images in a secure SGD format. However, users may export GeneSnap images in TIFF or JPG format. This file format is classified as Raster Image.
- ODS Graphics Designer (graph description) by SASODS Graphics Designer is a software for creating analytical graphs such as single-cell, multi-cell and classification panel graphs. It uses the "point-and-click" approach, and graphs created with this program can be embedded into other applications. Graph descriptions created with ODS Graphics Designer are stored in SGD files. This file format is classified as Data.
- SameGame (game data) by Olof TjerngrenSameGame is a discontinued Tetris-like video game for Windows 95, 98, and NT operating systems. Some data used by this game were stored in SGD files. This file format is classified as Game.
- SmartGo (game database) by Smart GoSmartGo is a Windows software for playing Go board game. Its SGD file contains the game database. Individual games in SmartGo may be exported into SGF (Smart Game Format) files. This file format is classified as Game.
- Statgraphics (data) by StatgraphicsStatgraphics is statistics software package with advanced functions for analyzing large datasets and performing advanced statistical operations. Statgraphics is also used for data visualization and it stores numeric data in SGD files. This file format is classified as Data.
- Steam (game backup) by ValveSteam is a cross-platform video game management solution that handles the purchase, installation, update, and backup of video games across multiple devices. Steam serves as a digital distribution service for Valve and third-party games. Game backups created by Steam are stored in SGD files. This file format is classified as Game.
- Vscope (seismic data) by Seismic SourceVscope is a program that allows users to operate one or more DAQlink units (portable seismograph systems). Seismic data collected by DAQlink units that are connected to Vscope may be saved in SGD format. This file format is classified as GIS.
- VT Pro-e (screen definition) by CrestronVT Pro-e is a graphical user interface design software. It comprises a professional toolkit for designing the user interface of touchscreen devices. The screen definition data used by its Smart Graphics technology are saved in SGD files. This file format is classified as Developer.
SGD file format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Below you will find our evaluation of the SGD files:
SGD is a very common file type and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 55% of all SGD files use the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also called Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This general-purpose file format provides a file-system-like structure within a file for the storage of arbitrary, application-specific streams of data. The Compound Document format is always starting with the bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. Sections and streams in the file are named Detector. SGD files are between 620 KB and 10 MB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Examples of file names are Image1.sgd. Files like these are about plasmid, primers, blot, samples, colony, actin, genotyping, digestion, digest and egfp.
- 6% of all SGD files have the same signature 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 01. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are on average 290 KB in size and range from 290 KB to 290 KB. Some examples of file names are SpSave_v2_0.sgd or Save0.sgd. Files like these have the following tags: spsave.
All other SGD files (39%) have no uniform format, the following 15 formats exist: UTF-8, XML, TIFF, ZIP, SGD, CAD and ntls. These files are often connected to client, start, autosave, player, faceshield, skirmish, zadanie, unfair or first. You can get all the details of your SGD file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .sgd file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for SGD File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\SuperGOO\SuperGoo.exe
EXEFile: C:\UDEWIN\ude.exe %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\BBW.EXE /Open
an sgd authentication data is a special file format by Oracle and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SGD files
- Associate the SGD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open authentication data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SGD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Oracle manufacturer website after an available Secure Global Desktop update.
- To make sure that your SGD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SGD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
