What is a TAP file?

TAP files mostly belong to SheetCam by Stable Design. A TAP file is a postprocessor result generated by SheetCam computer-aided manufacturing program. It contains G-code that routers use to cut, rough, and mill materials (e.g. wood or steel). A different TAP file is an embroidery design created with Embird embroidery design software. TAP is also the filename extension of a disk image containing a program installer package, video game, or data files extracted from tapes (cassettes) used by older personal computers such as Oric, Commodore 64, and Jupiter Ace. TAP disk image format is obsolete but it can be mounted and used by programs that emulate older computers.

How can I open a TAP file?

You need a suitable software like SheetCam to open a TAP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TAP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TAP file directly in the browser:.
