TAP file extension format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the TAP files:
The TAP file extension is quite widespread and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 25% of all TAP files start with the bytes T1M6 G crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are often between 2 KB and 2 MB in size. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. G0X0.000Y0.000S15000M3. Such files sometimes refer to mill, toolpath, finish, sheet, ball, nose, finishing, roughing, chakra, perf and wall.
- 7% of all TAP files are C64 Tape image format files. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The average file size is 200 KB with most files being between 35 KB and 560 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. C64-TAPE-RAW and ////////////. cert-se ctf2020.tap is a typical file name. Such TAP files store data about cert.
All other TAP files (68%) have different formats, often, for example, ZX Spectrum Tape image, Oric Tape image, GZIP and DEPRECATION. Files like these are sometimes linked to results, code, acceptance, pocket, unit or inch. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your TAP file!
