What is a TCF file

TCF files mostly belong to TCF Editor. TCF files do not refer to a single standard file type. Instead, they are used by several different programs for distinct data needs.

SQLite Database: Some TCF files are actually SQLite databases that store scan data. They use SQL commands and require a database browser to open. For more information, visit SQLite.

Embroidery Files: Other TCF files serve as embroidery design files. They hold stitch and layout instructions for Tajima machines and are best opened with software from Tajima. More details can be found at Tajima Software.

Configuration & Test Case Files: Some versions work as configuration files or test case formats. These may use XML, GZIP, or ZIP internally and are often used in electronic design (e.g. Cadence Allegro PCB Designer, see Cadence) or for system testing.

Compressed & Container Files: There are also TCF files that act as compressed archives or secure containers (similar to TrueCrypt Container Files). Opening these files may need decompression tools or dedicated viewers.

Other Uses: A few files labeled as TCF include formats for thermal camera comment data or specialized configuration systems such as Titus.

How to open a TCF file

You need a suitable software like TCF Editor to open a TCF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. TCF file extension format:

If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the TCF files produces the following result:

An TCF file has no uniform or dominant file format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 8% of all TCF files have the same signature 00 00 00 00. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The average file size is 1 KB with most files being between 560 bytes and 1 KB in size.
• 6% of all TCF files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "4.00" at the beginning. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 13 KB to 52 KB in size, with a median of 27 KB. The keywords +X:   1, +Y:   1 and -X:   0 are typical for these files.
