Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the TD0 files comes to the following conclusion:

The TD0 file type mainly uses a defined TD0 format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 90% of all TD0 files are Teledisk Disk compressed image files. They consist of unreadable binary data. A typical file size is 220 KB. The file type was used 20 years ago but is still in use today. KIT-001.TD0 or BKUP-001.TD0 is a typical file name. Such files sometimes refer to backup and pattern.
• 6% of all TD0 files start with the bytes SPD20P crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 2 KB in size and range from 2 KB to 450 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 000034, <=>?@ABCDEFGHIJK*, 77777777((((P and SPD-20. BKUP-001.TD0 is a typical file name.
