All about TEK Files
The TEK file type is primarily associated with Tekton.
What is a TEK file?
It comes in several forms, for example:
- Tekton Project & CAD Files: These use an XML structure to hold project details and design drawings. They are used in systems that manage CAD work. Refer to the project page at tekton.dev.
- Geotechnical and Hydrographic Data: Some TEK files keep Finnish geotechnical survey data or tide information in a text format. They are used in civil engineering and hydrographic analysis.
- Robot Mapping Data: Other TEK files contain mapping information for cleaning robots, serving firmware such as DEEBOT WIN3.0 by Ecovacs. Check Ecovacs for details.
- Concrete Pour Data: These files also hold civil engineering drawings like concrete pour details from Tekla Structures, supported by resources at tekla.com.
FilExt.com tip: Each variant has a specific function but all share a basis in storing structured project information. Use the appropriate software to view or edit details, and even a text editor can reveal the underlying XML structure when needed.
How do you open TEK files?
You need a suitable software like Tekton to open a TEK file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TEK file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TEK file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

- Tekton
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. TEK files are often referred to as Tekton cads because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ASITIC (Technology File) by University of California at BerkeleyASITIC: Analysis and Simulation of Spiral Inductors and Transformers for ICs. ASITIC is CAD tool that aids the RF circuit designer to optimize and model spiral inductors, transformers, capacitors, and substrate coupling. This file format is classified as CAD/CAM. TEK file format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the TEK files comes to the following conclusion:
TEK is not a common file extension and does not have a uniform file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 20% of all TEK files have the same signature TEKECOVACS000103. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. A typical file size is 330 KB. The keywords TEKECOVACS000103 are typical for these files. An example of a file name is 0.tek or 1.tek.
- 20% of all TEK files are based on the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The average file size is 3 MB with most files being between 1 MB and 14 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <head>, <stackpool>0</stackpool>, <tekton>, user and <fileversion>426</fileversion>.
All the rest of the TEK files (60%) have different formats, the following 4 formats exist: TEKTON. Sometimes used for kairaukset or results. Just click the "Choose your .tek file to view" button on this page to find out what your TEK file is.
Technical Data for TEK File Extension
a tek technical project file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with TEK files
- Associate the TEK file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open technical project files. Because only the current version supports the latest TEK file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Tekton update.
- To make sure that your TEK file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .TEK file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
