What is a TFA file?
How to open a TFA file
You need a suitable software like Adobe Acrobat Reader to open a TFA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TFA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TFA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

TFA file extension format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the TFA files produces the following result:
You will often come across the TFA file type. This covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 45% of all TFA files start with the bytes *TFAMK* crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. TFA files are between 19 KB and 1 MB in size. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as *TFAMK*. Examples of file names are Aanvraag_Beoordeling_arbeidsvermogen.tfa or Aanvraag_WIA-uitkering.tfa. Files like these are sometimes connected to aanvraag, uitkering, arbeidsvermogen, beoordeling, digipolis, familie, gezin and gent.
- 25% of all TFA files are based on the well-known zlib file format. Zlib is a compressed archive file format that supports several different data compression algorithms. zlib is also a crucial component of many software platforms, including Linux, macOS, and iOS. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are often between 23 KB and 4 MB in size. Some examples of file names are archive0.tfa or archive1.tfa.
The remaining 30% of all TFA files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. UnityFS and heJ. These files sometimes refer to ontslagvergunning, deskundigenoordeel, aanvragen, formulier, melding or spirit. If you want to find out which format your TFA file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .tfa file to analyze".

How to solve problems with TFA files
- Associate the TFA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data containers. Because only the current version supports the latest TFA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Adobe Acrobat Reader update.
