What is a TFC file?

TFC files mostly belong to UE Viewer. TFC files are used to store complex graphical data. They come in different types and have specialized roles.
Primary use:

Unreal texture container: This format packs texture data for use in Unreal engine games. Tools such as UE Viewer open these files to display game models' textures.

Other uses:

How to open TFC files

You need a suitable software like UE Viewer to open a TFC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the TFC files looks like this:

TFC is not a common file extension and mainly uses a defined TFC format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 75% of all TFC files use the popular Unreal file format. This Unreal Engine Package by Epic Games may contain textures, maps, music files, 3D models, or game settings. The package can be created and edited using the Unreal Development Kit. They consist of unreadable binary data. The average file size is 200 MB with most files being between 17 MB and 1 GB in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. CharTextures.tfc or Textures.tfc is a typical file name. Such files sometimes refer to char, patch, high and normals.
• 6% of all TFC files start with the magic bytes 9E 2A 83 C1 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The file size is in the range of 990 KB to 780 MB. The following filename is common: Textures.tfc.
