TMS file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the TMS files produces the following result:
The file type with the extension 'TMS' is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 30% of all TMS files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are 150 KB to 1 MB in size, with a median of 150 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <ROOT VERSION="1.0">, <TIMELINE TV_STANDARD="0" WIDTH="640" HEIGHT="480" ASPECTX="4" ASPECTY="3">, <TRACK TRACKTYPE="4"/> and <TRACK TRACKTYPE="0" AUDIOVOLUME. Files like these have the following tags: music and video.
- 10% of all TMS files use the popular GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The average file size is 10 KB with most files being between 2 KB and 21 KB in size. The file name DefaultSave_WLD_Exploration_001.tms or DefaultSave_WLD_Exploration_001_BACKUP_1.tms is typical for these files. These files are often associated with save, exploration, backup, high and seas.
The remaining 60% of all TMS files are files with no common format, often, for example, Telemate compiled script, UTF-8, ZIP, DOC, ECS and TGMS. These files sometimes refer to chara, cutin, base, sample or hydro. If you want to find out what your TMS file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with TMS files
- Associate the TMS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest TMS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Tableau update.
- To make sure that your TMS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .TMS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
