Opening a TTE File
The TTE file type is primarily associated with FontForge.
What is a TTE file?
This format is used to collect multiple font designs together. It achieves file size savings by sharing common data such as glyph outlines and metric tables.
Functionality and use:
FilExt.com note: Few know that the shared structure of these files reduces redundancy and speeds up font loading on systems.
How can I open a TTE file?
You need a suitable software like FontForge to open a TTE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TTE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TTE file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert TTE files:
- FontForge
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. TTE files are often referred to as FontForge fonts because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- TextTransformer by Detlef Meyer-EltzThe TextTransformer is a tool to analyze and transform texts. It integrates a parser generator, a debugger and a C++ interpreter into a single workbench.
TTE file extension format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the TTE files looks like this:
TTE is not a common file extension and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in TTE files are:
- 80% of all TTE files are TrueType Font files. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 93 KB in size and range from 64 KB to 1 MB. The file type was used 20 years ago but is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 6hhea, fpgm, ,cvt, name, post, glyf, maxp, $hmtx, loca, pOS/2, `cmap and Vcmap. Examples of file names are EUDC.TTE.
- 15% of all TTE files have the same signature 56 2C. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are often between 190 bytes and 200 bytes in size.
All other TTE files (5%) have no consistent format. Just click the "Choose your .tte file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your TTE file is.
