What is a UDD file?

UDD files mostly belong to OllyDbg. This file, an UDD file, is used in debugging and error reporting tasks.
It comes in two main forms:
  • Debug Data File - Used by tools such as OllyDbg, these files store binary data from debugging sessions. Some are recognized as IDA Pro Debugger Module Files. More information is available at OllyDbg.
  • User Data Dump - Employed by Windows Error Reporting, this format captures diagnostic data when a system or application error occurs.
  • FilExt.com tip: Because these files contain structured binary information, a regular text editor is not sufficient. Use a dedicated debugger or error reporting tool to open and analyze the contents.

    How to open UDD files

You need a suitable software like OllyDbg to open a UDD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UDD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UDD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

    UDD format details:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the UDD files comes to the following conclusion:

UDD is rarely used as a file extension and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in UDD files are:

All other UDD files (30%) have no consistent format. Tagged as dump, user, texture, burner or uddata. If you want to find out which format your UDD file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .udd file to analyze".

How to solve problems with UDD files

    • Associate the UDD file extension with the correct application.
    • Update your software that should actually open debugging files. Because only the current version supports the latest UDD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available OllyDbg update.
