Opening a VE File
The VE file type is primarily associated with FlexiSIGN.
What is a VE file
In another usage, the extension marks a project file from Apowersoft Video Editor. These files hold editing project data in JSON format, which organizes settings, timeline information, and effects. More details about this implementation can be found at the Apowersoft website.
A smaller group of VE files serve as backup archives. They use a structure known as DataTransformEnvelope and are associated with enterprise backup systems (often linked with Veritas Enterprise backup and tools like VeraCrypt).
Key details in usage:
- FlexiSIGN vector graphics – stores complex design data in a compound file format.
- Video editor project – uses JSON to handle editable project details.
- Backup archive – encapsulates enterprise backup data following a specific envelope format.
FilExt.com note: Inspecting a file’s header or metadata can reveal which internal format is in use, guiding the choice of the correct native application to open it.
How to open a VE file
You need a suitable software like FlexiSIGN to open a VE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VE file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert VE files:
- FlexiSIGN
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. VE files are often referred to as FlexiSIGN vector images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Sign Studio (Vector Graphic) by CADLink TechnologySign Studio was written by Dave Hawks for a computer games company in the UK called Electric Studio. He did fingerprint work for Scotland Yard and the software was originally written to scan and vectorize artwork so it could be cut on a Gerber 4b. They never achieved the connection to a Gerber 4B. The Roland PNC100 was released in 1987 and Dave wrote a driver for this desktop cutter which worked well. The program at that time was named Vector Eyes; thus the .VE extension. The program was ahead of its time and was released into the world market in late 1989. In 1992 it was sold to CADLink Technology in Canada. They used the source code to release another product called Cadlink for Windows. This became SignLab in 1995. This file format is classified as Graphic.
VE file format:
To find out what program is needed to open VE files, you need to determine the file format. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the VE files comes to the following conclusion:
The VE file extension is quite common and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 50% of all VE files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. Microsoft Compound File is a complex container format used by some versions of Microsoft Office and other Windows-centric applications. It has features similar to those of a filesystem format. Compound files always start with the bytes ÐÏࡱá (hex code D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1). Sections and streams in the file have names like FlexiSIGN Contents and OLE Contents. The average file size is 130 KB with most files being between 47 KB and 1 MB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Such files are related to logo, decal, banner, shirts, street, vector, logos and back, and often consist of personal data.
- 45% of all VE files are based on the well-known JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. VE files can be up to 900 KB in size, but are often around 12 KB - 290 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. {"$id":"1","$type":"Apowersoft.VideoEditor.Model.Export.OutputMedia, Apowersoft Video Editor","Items":{"$type":"ReactiveUI.ReactiveList`1[[Apowersoft.VideoEditor.Model.Track.ITrack, Apowersoft Video E. Some examples of file names are VideoEdit_1.ve. These files are often associated with movie, video, edit, quadratic, trabalho, probing and filmik.
The remaining 5% of all VE files are different files with different signatures, such as DataTransformEnvelope. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your VE file!
Technical Data for VE File Extension
a ve vector image file format is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with VE files
- Associate the VE file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open vector image file formats. Because only the current version supports the latest VE file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available FlexiSIGN update.
- To make sure that your VE file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .VE file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
