What is a VPR file?

VPR files mostly belong to VOCALOID5. VPR files are project or report files that serve different roles depending on the software that created them. They are not a single standard type and can appear in several contexts.

Vocaloid Project File – This variant uses a ZIP container to store music project data for VOCALOID5. It holds voice synthesis settings and related assets. Check the Vocaloid website for details.

Viper Report File – In some cases the file contains analysis data or report information used by Viper software from IAP GmbH.

ViSoft Project File – Another use is to hold project data for ViSoft Premium. More on this can be found at the ViSoft website.

Track Geometry Data File – Certain VPR files store track layout and vertical profile information, often used in engineering (notably by VADEQ).

Vellum Page Report – Some instances involve report files related to page or volume data, sometimes linked with VeraCrypt utilities.

Audio Project Format – A few VPR files are used in contexts related to audio projects, such as MuseScore projects, blending project settings with audio data. Reference is available at the NCH website.

How to open a VPR file

You need a suitable software like VOCALOID5 to open a VPR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VPR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VPR file directly in the browser:. VPR file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the VPR files comes to the following conclusion:

The VPR file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes different formats for the applicable programs. But the following two file formats are common:

• 40% of all VPR files use the ZIP algorithm, i.e. a VPR file contains several compressed files. The average file count is 1 with most VPR files containing between 1 - 2 compressed files. File names inside are Project-sequence.json. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The files are 2 KB to 38 MB in size, with a median of 590 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: Yamaha Corporation, major, masterTrack, minor, revision, title, vender, version, Project\sequence.json, samplingRate and loop. Some examples of file names are wish.vpr. Files like these have the following tags: report and templatehw.
• 15% of all VPR files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "03 01 00 00" at the beginning. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are often between 13 KB and 82 KB in size. The keywords Viper by IAP GmbH, documents, prod, tune and logo are typical for these files.
