What is a ZTX file

ZTX files mostly belong to Zwift. ZTX files serve different functions depending on their origin. The most common use is as a zipped texture file used by Zwift. This file stores image textures in a compressed format for game environments and virtual worlds.
Other roles include:

PLC Program Archive: Some ZTX files are actually ZIP archives that contain PLC programming data. These are used with tools like Unity Pro for Schneider Electric PLC programs.

Settings Archive: A few ZTX files use UTF-16 (LE) encoding to hold application settings, for instance from Adobe Illustrator or ZWCAD. They function as compressed archives for configuration data.

How to open a ZTX file

You need a suitable software like Zwift to open a ZTX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ZTX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ZTX file directly in the browser:. Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the ZTX files looks like this:

The ZTX file type mainly uses a special format. The file formats most commonly found in ZTX files are:

• 70% of all ZTX files start with the magic bytes ZHR, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The file size is in the range of 3 KB to 240 KB. The file type is relatively new. Some examples of file names are map.ztx. Files like these are sometimes connected to zwift, thumb, canyon, outfit, team, component, diff, bikeradar, complete, academy, central, aeroad, garage, badge, route, help, park and shop.
• 20% of all ZTX files use the ZIP format, the ZTX file contains a number of compressed files. A ZTX file includes 2 to 230 files. Common included file names are CONTEXT.CTX and CONTEXTInternalWindowPos.CTX. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. ZTX files are between 3 KB and 2 MB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: CONTEXT.CTX. The file name cableData.ztx or la_20_05_2019_abends.ztx is typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to data, cable and abends.
