CAR files contain the information of all cars manufactured by a single manufacturer from one specific year separately. CAR file extension is also given to compressed CAR Archive files. In Windows-run PCs, SAPCAR application by SAP is used to compress and decompress all deliverable executables and files. The newer versions of SAPCAR though have replaced CAR files with SAR files.

These CAR files are compiled to form a binary BAR file that gets auto-loaded upon running the application. CAR files are also linked with Gary Gadget: Building Cars, a children's car-driving video game that contains the car details, and in-game medals won using the car.

CAR file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the CAR files is as follows:
CAR is a very widely used file extension. The file type includes different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 30% of all CAR files are Compiled Asset Catalogs files. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 58 KB to 16 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as BOMStore. Examples of file names are Assets.car. These files are attributed to appearance.
- 15% of all CAR files are based on the zip format, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one CAR file. The included 1 to 130 files have file names such as artifacts.xml. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. The files are on average 68 KB in size and range from 5 KB to 1 MB. Such CAR files store data about definition, composite, application, configs, deployment, exporter, omni and prod.
All other CAR files (55%) have no uniform format, such as NASCAR Racing 2002 Season Car data, Biosym archive, Carrara Environment, .NET, DOC, XML, rac, VariantT, TSR, CAR, VRC and Yaz. These files sometimes refer to career, card, conf, trim, snapshot, borsuk, badge, model or data. You can get all the details of your CAR file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .car file to analyze" above.
