DIC file format details:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the DIC files:
The DIC file extension is very common and covers different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in DIC files:
- 55% of all DIC files are based on the popular DICOM file format. DICOM is short for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine. DICOM files are used to store, exchange, and transmit medical images from radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and radiation therapy, but also personal data about the patient. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. DIC files are between 70 KB and 14 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: DICM. These files can be linked to lspine, cspine, tspine, whole and body.
- 2% of all DIC files use the popular UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. A typical file size is 6 KB. Examples of file names are default.dic or RoamingCustom.dic. Such files are related to custom and roaming.
All the rest of the DIC files (43%) have different formats, the following 17 formats exist: ATOK Dictionary, DICOM medical imaging bitmap, EXE, UTF-8, UDF, SDIC, true, VTL, Dictionary, AAA and CAR. These files sometimes refer to dictionary, english, imjp, down, tcjpstyleguide, german, system, words or sdds. If you want to find out which format your DIC file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .dic file to view this image".
