What is a DIZ file?

DIZ files mostly belong to Notepad by Microsoft. DIZ is the filename extension of a plain text file containing a short description of the program(s), dataset, or collection of files in a ZIP archive. A DIZ file was originally used to provide a short description of an archive uploaded to a message board or file-sharing site. This file is usually named FILE_ID.DIZ. By convention, it saves up to 10, 45-character lines of text description. Notepad, TextEdit, Sublime, NFOPad, Bitberry File Opener or any plain text editor can create, read, and edit a DIZ file. Archives containing DIZ files usually contain NFO files containing artwork and advertisement.

How to open a DIZ file

You need a suitable software like Notepad to open a DIZ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DIZ file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DIZ file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

DIZ file extension format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the DIZ files:

The DIZ file extension is not widely used. Such a file has no uniform or dominant file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:

The remaining 89% of all DIZ files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. VENDINFO information. Just click the "Choose your .diz file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your DIZ file is.
