What is an FP file?

FP files mostly belong to Notepad++ by Don Ho. FP file extension is used to store 3D data which define the appearance of fragments in a 3D model. The FP file is called a fragment program as it contains fragments (pixels in 3D space) which a render engine uses to manipulate the pixels in the target 3D model prior to rendering it. FileMaker, a cross-platform relational database management system uses the FP file extension to store spreadsheets containing data organized into rows and columns. On most Windows operating systems, you may find an FP file created by FinePrint, a Windows utility for manipulating print jobs. Such FP files contain print jobs including layouts, settings, and the pages to be printed. FoxPro, a discontinued database programming language stored its settings in FP files. CRISP Harvest, a software used to simulate fish harvests over an extended period uses FP files to store data such as harvest policies, scalars etc.

How can I open an FP file?

You need a suitable software like Notepad++ to open an FP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FP file directly in the browser:. If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. The FP file extension is not found very often and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in FP files:

50% of all FP files are associated with FinePrint saved output. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The file size is in the range of 9 KB to 2 MB. The file type was developed 20 years ago and is still in use today. The files contain the following words: FINC and FINE. Such FP files store data about letterhead.
15% of all FP files have the same signature 46 50 00 00. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The file size is in the range of 3 KB to 110 KB.
