All about FRX Files
The FRX file type is primarily associated with Visual Studio.
What is an FRX file?
How to open an FRX file
You need a suitable software like Visual Studio to open an FRX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FRX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FRX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert FRX files:
- Visual Studio by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FRX files are often referred to as Visual Studio developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Visual FoxPro (report) by MicrosoftVisual FoxPro is a discontinued database management system and programming language. It saves a report in a file with FRX filename extension. This file format is classified as Developer.
FRX file format details:
To view or edit FRX files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the FRX files produces the following result:
The FRX file extension is very common and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in FRX files:
- 30% of all FRX files start with the bytes 00 00, which are crucial for this file format. These files are not pure binary files and are therefore readable and interpretable with a text editor. The files are on average 21 KB in size and range from 8 KB to 38 KB. The file type was developed 20 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. NAME, OBJCODE, OBJTYPE, PLATFORM, TIMESTAMP and UNIQUEID. Such FRX files store data about invoice, icbil, bill, list, client, payment, receipt, label and form.
- 25% of all FRX files store the data in the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. FRX files are between 5 KB and 110 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, ReportInfo, Created, Modified, <Report ScriptLanguage="CSharp" and CreatorVersion. The following filename is common: Invoice.frx. Files like these have the following tags: report, sales, products, order, base and demo.
All other FRX files (45%) have no uniform format, often e.g. Microsoft Visual Basic Form, GZIP, FRSXXBLO and Qlt. These files sometimes refer to user, about, login, password, data, template or print. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your FRX file!

How to solve problems with FRX files
- Associate the FRX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open forms. Because only the current version supports the latest FRX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Visual Studio update.
- To make sure that your FRX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FRX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
