What is a MER file?

MER files mostly belong to FactoryTalk View by Rockwell Automation. An MER file is a runtime executable compiled from a MED file containing a human-machine interface application project developed with Rockwell Automation products such as FactoryTalk View. Another type of MER file contains resident area data used by the Macro Editor in WordPerfect office productivity software suite. MER is also the filename extension of a file containing an entity-relationship model that graphically describes interrelated entities. Software development tools such as the ER-Designer component of MyEclipse integrated development environment use an MER file to store an entity relationship diagram for database objects.

How to open a MER file

You need a suitable software like FactoryTalk View to open a MER file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. To view or edit MER files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored.
