File Extension LZ

.LZ File

File extension: LZ
File type: Compressed File

Notes about the LZ file extension:

Incorrect file associations could be the result of underlying issues within your PC system. As such it is highly recommended to scan your PC for invalid registry entries, unused processes and other unfavourable system settings to identify slowdown issues.

The LZ file type is primarily associated with 'lzip' by Antonio Diaz Diaz.

Lzip is a lossless data compressor based on the LZMA (Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain-Algorithm) algorithm designed by Igor Pavlov.

The high compression of LZMA comes from combining two basic, well-proven compression ideas: sliding dictionaries (i.e. LZ77/78), and markov models (i.e., the thing used by every compression algorithm that uses a range encoder or similar order-0 entropy coder as its last stage) with segregation of contexts according to what the bits are used for.

.tar.lz and .tlz extensions are used when combined with the Tar program.
