File Extension NZB

File type: Download Pointer File

Notes about the NZB file extension:

Errors in your registry are one of the common causes for incorrect file associations on your windows system. It is highly recommended that you check your registry for file association errors (will also check for any other registry errors).

The NZB file type is primarily associated with 'Newzbin' by Newzbin Ltd. NZB is an XML-based file format for retrieving posts from NNTP (Usenet) servers. The format was conceived by the developers of the Newzbin.com Usenet Index. NZB is effective when used with search-capable websites. These websites create NZB files out of what is needed to be downloaded. Using this concept, headers would not be downloaded hence the NZB method is quicker and more bandwidth-efficient. The format, however, can be used for pointing to broken up content of most any kind (e.g., graphic, movie, audio, etc.) which is often found in binary newsgroups. The NZB files themselves are usually small XML text files; the news reader using the NZB file to collect the binary pieces of a larger file may also use .NZB for the partial downloads until the full file can be assembled; however, this is not required by the specification.
