What is a BCR file?

BCR files mostly belong to BCRedit. BCR files are not a single standard but a group of file formats that store binary data in several specialized ways.
Many of these files are created as Binary Compressed Resources that use GZIP compression to save game data. For instance, they serve as save files for Game Boy Advance titles and are typically managed with tools like BCRedit in the Shining Force III Scenario Editor.
Other variants include:

How to open BCR files

You need a suitable software like BCRedit to open a BCR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. BCR format details:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the BCR files looks like this:

An BCR file includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 65% of all BCR files store the data in the GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. BCR files are between 5 KB and 370 KB in size. The file type was created recently. Examples of file names are r.0.0.bcr.
• 8% of all BCR files start with the magic bytes 34 38 03 34 39 03 35 31 03 32 35 38 03 35 32 03, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files are partially readable by a human. The file size is in the range of 18 KB to 37 KB. The file name Acc Day Book.bcr is typical for these files.
