What is a MOI file?

MOI files mostly belong to Everio by JVC. MOI files contain data about MOD videos (movies) recorded with Everio digital camcorders manufactured by JVC. Contents of MOI files include data such as bitrate, codec, timestamps, and duration. MOI data files are found alongside MOD video files which are standard MPEG-2-based VOB files with Dolby Digital audio. Some Canon and Panasonic camcorders also save additional video data in MOI files. Multimedia software such as VLC can play MOD videos. The MOI file is automatically opened when the MOD file is played.

How to open a MOI file

You need a suitable software like Everio to open a MOI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MOI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MOI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
