I have tried to uninstall "Ati multimedia center" but it stop unexpectedly and there is no futher message or prompt to restart the system.

When I check Add/remove programs, the program is sill listed

The software is not working now, and when I try to reinstall it, it also stops halfway through.

I have also used norton systemworks to uninstal it but it didn't work either

I have managed to un/install other programs without any problems. only that program and another ATI program fail to uninstall.

I am always logged on as an administrator and am the only user of my pc.

Any Ideas ?

Apparently you are not alone in having problems with that software...

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Ati+multimedia+center%22+uninstall

...brings up a number of different pages with suggestions.

For example, if you upgraded the computer to Windows XP from ME or 98 you likely can't uninstall the product according to ATI...

http://mirror.ati.com/support/infobase/4000.html

Even Microsoft has some suggestions...

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=299929

That, at least, should get you started.

Thanks Daboss

I've used regcleaner and other registry cleaners. I've been on this website
ATI Catalyst Tweak Guide (http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_4.html) and followed all the steps to remove all Ati software.i've also been on this site http://www.flexbeta.net/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t5132.html .I unplugged the remote control receiver as recommended. i can reinstall the display drivers and the control panel. the dvd decoder install appears to complete, but when I try to install the multimedia center, installation stops without warning during the "publishing product information stage"
I don't know why it stop, and the error ID in the applicaton event log is not in microsoft's database.

So i'm still stuck

Problem solved!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Daboss :D for suggesting Service Pack 2 as the possible cause. I thought about some software I had installed since my last Ati upgrade as the problem. Completely forgot about SP2  . I Uninstalled it before installing the Ati multimedia center. Everything worked fine. That was a week wasted thanks to bloody SP2

Download Advance Uninstaller from:

http://www.download.com/Advanced-Uninstaller-Pro-2004/3000-2096_4-10332612.html?tag=lst-0-7

this program has a button which FORCES a program out of your Add/Remove section in Control Panel. Also does lots of other stuff.
