Convert open office (odt) to word (doc)

I have a few OpenOffice writer files that I need to convert word format. I know OpenOffice will convert word files to open office.

I haven't been able to find anything on Google or the other sites I've searched. I'm surprised MS hasn't at least released a plug in to read OpenOffice files.

I could simply download OpenOffice but seeing as I'm on dial-up that would be hell.

Thanks in Advance,

Dan

Just a thought

If possible, you could see if the program was available to buy, instead of downloading it off of the internet. I don't know much about OpenOffice, or if it only available via download, but it is just a thought. Or you could just endure the hours worth of downloading off of the internet. I'm sorry, this wasn't very helpful was it? I'm an idiot, I apologize.

Thanks..

I was visiting with someone who only had dial up, now that I'm home I'm back with cable internet and I downloaded OpenOffice. :) I burned a copy to CD and mailed it off to my friend too.

For future you use it would be nice to find something that does converts a specified directory, from .odt to .doc.

open office document to word

i want to know which converter can convert open office document to word

See above. OpenOffice saves to Word format. AFAIK no standalone converter presently exists. Just use SaveAs in OpenOffice.

And what if open office doesn't open your document any more?

OpenOffice crashed on me while I was editing my document. Each time i open my doc again, it freezes.

How can I get it into word without having to use OO?

Since there is no converter you have to improvise.

The format that OO uses is basically a zipped XML file type of format. So on a copy of the file try using a zipping program to get to the contents and then a text editor to look at the content and see if you can puzzle it out and dig your text out of what you find.

There is also an OpenOffice forum here...

...where there may be better or more complete information and specialized help.

Good luck.

RE:viewing odt files

I ran into the problem of downloading and viewing an .odt file and found a free download on this page: http://www.officeviewers.com/

I was able to view the file, then cut (or copied) and pasted the text into a word document. However, to do this, I had to first uninstall the file (because it began to open every word document as a text viewer file)

Hope this helps
