Default .p file extensions

I have a math program with .p file extensions. I know how to access these files. I have put them in word and they will open.

However, there are some symbols that are appearing and I am not sure what they are. Is there anyway to clear them up

somewhat.? jengr.

The only math program listed for .P files is MATLAB...
