I have downloaded a game mod, it is a .bin file. My computer won't open it (Windows XP). I have tried a trial download of "Magic something or other", that said something about .bin files,... but it said it could not find file or it was not on a CD. But I had copied it to a CD. How can I open this file to mod my game? I cannot find a source for a download to get this extension,...other than that "Magic___" (I forgot) that didn't work. My trial with that has made me leery of paying for programs that I then find won't help me. And I am NOT very computer literate...Thanks for your attention.

A BIN file is an image of a CD or DVD disc. When you write it out to a disc you have to write it out as an image and not just copy the file to a CD or DVD. There are many programs to do this (e.g., Isobuster and many others), some free, some not. Once you get the file written out to a disc then doing a directory of the disc will show you the contents of the BIN file on the disc and you can then do whatever is necessary to apply the mod.
An alternative is to use a virtual CD/DVD program which basically does the same thing but does not require actually writing the file out to a disc. It's all done in memory. Again, there are many of these as well. http://filext.com/file-extension/bin |
