Default opening .dmg in winxp

Hey guys,

I copied dmg2iso.exe into the folder where the dmg file was, then tried dmg2iso.exe file.dmg file.iso in command prompt.

The program simply closes and creates an empty file.iso file.

I then simply d/l'ed macdrive, to no avail. I tried isobuster, agian to no avail. Each time I had tried using daemon tools just to see if I could mount the file. Then it did somehow let me mount the dmg and open the files. But there was no autoplay feature, I right clicked the file and clicked autoplay, that simply let me explore the folders, but clicking on the "cd" that daemon tools creates won't then just open the application.

I think I've explained enough in a round about way. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,
jolly c

Recently Apple has introduced a new type of DMG (Macintosh Disk Image).
This new type is called "web enabled". What these odd things do is have a script of something in them that deletes the .DMG once the image has been mounted. I supose as a convenience of questionible value.
Perhaps what you have is one of those? And thats causeing a problem?
Or DMGs can be password protected and I would imagine that would screw up your mounting software.
Lastly DMGs can be one of 6 different formats: HFS, HFS+, UFS, ProDOS, what ever Linux uses and Fat32.
I dont have any answers but am suggesting possible causes of your problem.

First copy all of your .dmg files to your hard drive. I copied mine to a folder within my PearPC (PPC) folder which I named MACOSX. Directory path = F:\PPC\MACOSX. I also renamed all of the files to make it easier to type them in the command prompt. I named them MAC1, MAC2, and MAC3. Be sure to include the file extension .dmg if you rename them. Copy the dmg2iso exe into the same folder as your newly copied .dmg files.

Now open up a command prompt window.

(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Command prompt open

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name>F: I typed “F:” to change disks

F:\>cd \PPC I now changed to directory PPC, my PearPC folder

F:\PPC>cd /MACOSX then to MACOSX by typing "cd /MACOSX"

F:\PPC\ MACOSX >dmg2iso MAC1.dmg MAC1.iso then I typed “dmg2iso MAC1.dmg MAC1.iso

dmg2iso v0.2c by vu1tur (vu1tur@gmx.de)

reading property list...ok

found 9 partitions

decompressing:

partition 0...ok

partition 1...ok

partition 2...ok

partition 3...ok

partition 4...ok

partition 5...ok

partition 6...ok

partition 7...ok

partition 8...ok

conversion successful

F:\PPC\ MACOSX >

The application took a couple of minutes to finish, but successfully resulted in 3 cd image files.

Hope this helps!

I'll bet you typed "cd \MACOSX" instead.

(I hate it that DOS/Windows used backslashes but the Internet URLs picked forward slashes. Forever mistyping them myself.)

Nope, I typed it just as it was posted above with a forward slash. That is an actual cut-n-paste from my command prompt window with remarks, of course.

Good luck!!

Default Clear explanation of how to use dmg2iso.exe in Windows

To turn a .dmg file into an .iso file on Windows:

1. download dmg2iso.exe from this site: http://vu1tur.eu.org/tools/ by clicking on [win32 binary].

2. to keep it easy, copy dmg2iso.exe to this location: C:\ (which is the root of your harddrive where Windows is installed)

3. go to Start - Run, and type cmd, to start the command prompt (also known as, or also to be found at C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe)

4. type cd.. in the command prompt (which means "change directory") and again, cd.. to get to the root C:\. (also, if you use another folder, you can simply copy that location, like, for ex.: C\My Fancy Folder\My weird documents\Whatever, and to paste it on the command prompt you have to use the Right Mouse Button - Paste)

5. now, you have to have your .dmg file in the same location as dmg2iso.exe. type this in your command prompt: dmg2iso.exe filename.dmg filename.iso (where, of course, you change filename with the real name of your file). (Don't use brackets, like < or >!)

6. that's it.

Hi,

Is there a way to burn a mac bootable image in a PC Burner? The image is a .DMG but I haven't found any PC Burner Software that can read this file as a disk image.

I think I have searched the whole internet but still couldn't find a way to do this.

I have tried

1. ISO Buster 1.7 : Converted DMG to bin/cue. Burnt using Nero. In Mac OS 9.2, it says Files might be corrupt. Only folder and file names are readable. The contents are not.

2. Transmac 7.0 : Burnt the bootable DMG directly to CD. In Mac OS 9.2, it says Files might be corrupt. Only folder and file names are readable. The contents are not.

3. DMG2ISO v0.2c : Unfortunately DMG2ISO generates and error during the conversion. An incomplete ISO file is created which is unusable.

I wonder what else I could try.

Cheers,
McoreD

P.S: For non-bootable DMG files all teh above methods work. Mac OS 9.2 (the one I am using at the moment) can properly read the CD.

Basically my requirement is identical to what's described here: http://www.static.net/~armenb/duh/bu...n-windows.html but with the difference that I do not have Mac OS X installed in my iMac.

You can download DMG2ISO from here:
http://vu1tur.eu.org/tools/

Once you have the ISO, you can either burn it with almost any CD burning application, or mount that image as a (virtual) drive with something like Daemon Tools, Vitual CD, etc., or directly see or extract files with other image utilities like CDMage.

Bye!
Well, i did the dmg2iso program, and when it finished, the iso file ended with 0kb,i was like WTH? ,so how am i suppose to burn a 0kb image? ,another thing that i tried but also did not work is using converted the .dmg into a Bin,but then the file ended up 40mb then original file, which was 648mb,when it was a bin it ended up being 740mb so its not burnable.

Please help me,on how to convert this .dmg to iso and an burnable ISO so i can play this game i always wanted.
