What is an OVR file

OVR files mostly belong to ArcGIS by ESRI. AcGIS geographic data manipulation/visualization software uses OVR files to store the pyramid layers of raster datasets. Such OVR files are stored in the same folder as TIFF/JPG image raster datasets in order to speed up the display of raster data a different resolutions. Programs such as QGIS also use pyramid layers (OVR files) in order to ensure that raster graphics are properly displayed and scaled on non-native resolutions. How to open an OVR file
