What is a CD file?
How to open a CD file
You need a suitable software like WaveLab to open a CD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CD file extension format:
To find out what program is needed to open CD files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the CD files comes to the following conclusion:
The CD file extension is rarely used and includes various formats for various programs. The file formats most commonly found in CD files are:
- 40% of all CD files are Class Diagram files, which are using the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are on average 2 KB in size and range from 420 bytes to 11 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, <ClassDiagram MajorVersion="1" MinorVersion="1">, Class Name, Position X, Width, true and Collapsed. A common filename is ClassDiagram1.cd or ClassDiagram.cd.
- 15% of all CD files start with the magic bytes 00 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 17 KB in size and range from 9 KB to 34 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. .CC4HSERHSER, icons, chars, android_atitc_tex, icon_speechbubble_mob.android_pvrtc_tex and super. Such files sometimes refer to morro.
The remaining 45% of all CD files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. StreamInfo. You can get all the details of your CD file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .cd file to view" above.

- Associate the CD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open audio cd projects. Because only the current version supports the latest CD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Steinberg manufacturer website after an available WaveLab update.
- To make sure that your CD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
