What is a DBX file
How to open DBX files
You need a suitable software like Dropbox to open a DBX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DBX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DBX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

DBX file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the DBX files:
The DBX file extension is rather rarely used and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The file formats most commonly found in DBX files are:
- 65% of all DBX files are associated with Outlook Express Database. The files are often between 75 KB and 58 MB in size. This file type was primarily in use more than 10 years ago. Files like these are sometimes connected to items, inbox, sent, deleted, folders, remaley and ramaley, and frequently comprise personal data.
- 5% of all DBX files are based on the well-known EXE file format. EXE is the abbreviation for executable and is the standard executable file format on Windows. The format can be identified by the letters "MZ" at the beginning. Executable files can also be used to distribute viruses and other types of malicious software (malware). These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 290 KB in size and range from 140 KB to 540 KB. The keywords !This program cannot be run in DOS mode are typical for these files.
The remaining 30% of all DBX files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. SQL. You can get all the details of your DBX file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .dbx file to analyze" above.
