What is a DCX file

DCX files mostly belong to XnView by XnSoft. DCX is a multi-page image file format often used by document and fax management software. A DCX file consists of a header and a set of bitmap images stored in PCX format. DCX multi-page image files have image/x-dcx MIME type and image processors such as GIMP, XnView, and PhotoShop can be used to view these images. Visual FoxPro, a database programming language and management system, saves database containers in DCX files. DesignCAD, a 2D computer-aided design software stores some kind of data in DCX files. The information used to initialize data controls for a service such as JavaBean and Webservice in JDeveloper, a software development program, is saved in DCX files. JDeveloper uses the contents of a DCX file to identify the Oracle Application Development Framework model layer data control classes that allow a client software to interact with the business service of an application.

How to open DCX files

You need a suitable software like XnView to open a DCX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DCX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DCX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

DCX format details:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the DCX files produces the following result:

The DCX extension is very commonly used. This DCX file itself is among the most popular common file types and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

The remaining 20% of all DCX files are different files with different signatures, the following 5 formats exist: TIFF and QQQZZ. Files like these are sometimes linked to emevd, param, ffxbnd, game, chrbnd, regulation, sblytbnd, fontbnd, fefont, frpg or triu. If you want to find out what your DCX file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

a dcx bitmap is a special file format by XnSoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with DCX files

  • Associate the DCX file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open bitmaps. Because only the current version supports the latest DCX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the XnSoft manufacturer website after an available XnView update.
  • To make sure that your DCX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .DCX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
