What is an FRAME file?

FRAME files mostly belong to Frame3D. The FRAME file can follow one of two formats.
One variant stores information in an SQL structure. It is an SQLite database that holds a structural analysis model. This type is used in applications from Frame3D and works with systems like ETABS.
The other variant uses JSON to save project data. It appears as a Frame.io project or a FabricJS Canvas Project File.

If the file shows SQL headers (for example, starting with 'SQLite format 3'), use an SQLite viewer or the corresponding analysis software.

If it displays JSON text when opened in a text editor, use a JSON viewer or editor.

How do you open FRAME files?

You need a suitable software like Frame3D to open an FRAME file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FRAME file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FRAME file directly in the browser:. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the FRAME files looks like this:

The FRAME file extension is not common and includes very many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 20% of all FRAME files are based on the popular SQL file format. An SQL file contains a lightweight SQLite database, widely used in application development for storing application related data. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 57 KB. The keywords SQLite format 3 are typical for these files. Such files sometimes refer to structure.
• 7% of all FRAME files use the popular JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The files are on average 8 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 10 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as fill, height, left, objects, originX, originY, type, version, width, null, stroke, strokeWidth and image. Some examples of file names are toonyFrame.frame.
