What is a KPL file?

KPL files mostly belong to Krita. KPL files are not a single format and have multiple uses.
One common use is as a Krita color palette file. These files use the ZIP format to store a set of colors for digital painting. You can import them into Krita to use these palettes.

How to open a KPL file

You need a suitable software like Krita to open a KPL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. 15% of all KPL files start with the bytes 01 07 54 47 21 00 00 00, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. KPL files are between 3 KB and 4 KB in size. The file name PLAN1.KPL is typical for these files.
