Opening an MMX File
The MMX file type is primarily associated with Oracle Forms Developer.
What is an MMX file?
- Oracle Forms: Files that hold menu settings for the forms. More details at Oracle.
- Command & Conquer: Files used as map layouts for game levels in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. See EA Command & Conquer.
- MindMapX: Files that contain mind mapping data, sometimes compressed using ZIP. Visit MindMapX for more info.
FilExt.com notes: Each MMX file is designed for its application. The data inside is structured for internal use only. To open and view one, you need the proper software that created it.
How to open MMX files
You need a suitable software like Oracle Forms Developer to open an MMX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MMX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MMX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

MMX file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. In the following you will find our evaluation of the MMX files:
The MMX file extension is not found very often and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The file formats most commonly found in MMX files are:
- 35% of all MMX files start with the bytes 00 00 03 00, which are crucial for this file format. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are 99 KB to 230 KB in size, with a median of 150 KB. The file type was primarily used more than 20 years ago. The following keywords are characteristic: Description, NAME, WEEK, CD=0,1 and [MultiMaps]. Some examples of file names are amazon.mmx or Arena.mmx. Files like these are sometimes connected to tanyas, bayopigs and plot.
- 35% of all MMX files start with the bytes 27 1B 00 00 crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The average file size is 160 KB with most files being between 8 KB and 560 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. MENU. The following filename is common: EPF_MAIN.mmx or YSPOS_MNU.mmx. Such MMX files store data about menu and yspos.
All other MMX files (30%) have no consistent format, such as ZIP. Files like these are sometimes linked to mapx or mind. Just click the "Choose your .mmx file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your MMX file is.
Technical Data for MMX File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\MMWin\mm.exe
an mmx configuration file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with MMX files
- Associate the MMX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open configuration files. Because only the current version supports the latest MMX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Oracle Forms Developer update.
- To make sure that your MMX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .MMX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
