What is an NLS file?

NLS files mostly belong to Windows by Microsoft. An NLS file is a script containing source code written in NetLogo programming language. NetLogo is based on Lisp programming language. An NLS file written in NetLogo is used to run model simulations. Another type of NLS file contains national language support functions that Windows uses to convert between various character sets. Among other things, functions stored in such an NLS file define the locale of a user, retrieves data strings like datetime information for a given locale, and indentifies a user's preferred language. NLS is also the filename extension of a data file (9_exception.nls) used by Troj/Agent-GIS trojan.

How to open NLS files

You need a suitable software like Windows to open an NLS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your NLS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a NLS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

NLS file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the NLS files produces the following result:
