What is an ODF file?

ODF files mostly belong to OpenOffice Math by Apache. ODF is one of the file extensions of an Open Document Format file. These are ZIP-compressed XML-based files for spreadsheets, charts, presentations, and word processing documents. They were developed with the aim of providing an open, XML-based file format specification for office applications.

File structure: Files with the ODF extension are specifically mathematical formula and equation files. Like the rest of the files in their family, they are XML-based, starting with a <document> root element. They can also appear as ZIP archives containing multiple files which can contain binary content and benefit from ZIP's lossless compression to reduce file size. The file itself is written with "separation of concerns" in mind - its content, styles, metadata, and application settings are separate XML files.</document>

How to open ODF files

You need a suitable software like OpenOffice Math to open an ODF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ODF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ODF file directly in the browser:. How to convert ODF files to JPG, PDF, HTML, DOC, ...

• 35% of all ODF files use the ZIP algorithm, so several files are combined and compressed into one ODF file. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. mimetypeapplication, oasis, opendocument and Configurations2.
• 20% of all ODF files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, known also as OLE2 Compound Document format or Composite Document File format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. They contain a number of independent data streams (like files in a file system) which are organized in a hierarchy of containers (like sub-directories in a file system). Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). The data in this file is stored in streams whose names are DG Document Header, DG PageArray and Page0000. ODF files are between 34 KB and 800 KB in size. marriott-cambridge-receipt-2000-04.ODF is a typical file name. These files are attributed to cambridge, marriott and receipt.
