What is a PAR file

PAR files mostly belong to QuickPar by Peter Clements. PAR filename extension is often associated with 3D mechanical models of product parts designed with Solid Edge, a 3D product design software developed by SIEMENS. The 3D model of mechanical parts stored in PAR files may be used during product performance simulations. PAR filename extension is also associated with videos captured with NetVu-connected Digital Video Recorders manufactured by Dedicated Micros. Such PAR videos are saved in a proprietary format supported by NetVU Observer and NetVu Investigator. PAR filename extension is also used to save Parchives which are codes for verifying file integrity. A Parchive may be embedded in a compressed disk image or an archive and used for file recovery. QuickPar may be used to open Parchives. FMS, a Windows-based flight simulation game saves airplane geometry and other flight data in PAR files. SAP business management software also stores portal components in PAR files.

How to open a PAR file

You need a suitable software like QuickPar to open a PAR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PAR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PAR file directly in the browser:. A typical file size is 470 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. These files are often associated with body, shaft, housing, frame, pieza, plate, base and none.
20% of all PAR files are associated with PAR compressed archive. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are 280 KB to 200 MB in size, with a median of 27 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as PARC. An example of a file name is mesh.par or VID00000.par. These files can be linked to sound, sprite, chara, font, camera, mahjong, battle, yazawa and boot.
