What is a PDL file?

PDL files mostly belong to C++ Builder by Embarcadero. A PDL file is a C++ application project created by some versions of C++ Builder integrated development environment. This file is written in Project Description Language. Such a PDL file contains stylesheets, project settings, and source code file references. It serves as an entry point for editing an application that's in development. Another type of PDL file is a project created with Print Shop desktop publishing software.

How can I open a PDL file?

PDL file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. • 45% of all PDL files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. The file contains sections that are named something like APBlobStreamV2, Contents, DynamicsStream, SummaryInformation, AP_INPROC_ADMIN, AP_INPROC_PCODE, AP_INPROC_SCODE, apc, DocumentSummaryInformation, FaceplateSummary and XrefSummary. The files are 42 KB to 2 MB in size, with a median of 380 KB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. These files are attributed to overview, screen, parameter and standard.
• 6% of all PDL files start with the bytes YREC Setting Data Version 1.0, which are crucial for this file format. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS.
